Still unsure?
You don’t have to wait for the IRS letter to start moving. The IRS “back‑dates” your tax‑exempt status to the date your nonprofit is incorporated, which means donations made after that date can be treated as tax‑deductible once you’re approved. Every Launch Package includes a simple document explaining this policy so you can confidently start fundraising much sooner than most people think.
That’s okay. Many founders come to us after filing something on their own. We’ll review what you’ve already done to make sure the required nonprofit language is there and fix anything that would cause an IRS rejection, including amending articles where needed (you only pay any state filing fees). If an EIN was ever used for another entity, we’ll obtain a new one for your nonprofit so the IRS has a clean record.
Yes. Most founders use their own money to get started, and the IRS lets you treat those costs in two ways: your nonprofit can reimburse you later once it has funds, or you can treat them as a charitable contribution on your personal or business taxes. The key is to keep good records (receipts, simple documentation from the nonprofit) and then work with your tax professional on how you want to handle it.
The IRS has two main paths to 501(c)(3) status based largely on your expected donations. Smaller, local organizations with more modest projected budgets typically qualify for our Express package, which uses the streamlined IRS process where eligible. Larger organizations, or those expecting higher annual donations, churches, and schools usually fit best in our Enterprise package that uses the full IRS application. On the next page we’ll walk you through these options and double‑check that you’re on the right plan before you move forward.
Yes, many founders build strategic partnerships between a for‑profit and a nonprofit. Your nonprofit is still a separate legal entity with its own board, bank account, and decision‑making. We help you set things up so the nonprofit is structured correctly, and you then work with your accountant or attorney to make sure any ongoing relationship between the two entities stays compliant.
Nobody controls the IRS timeline, but we focus on everything we can control. Our process and documentation are designed to make the reviewer’s job easy, which is why founders routinely tell us their approvals came faster than expected. You’ll complete your part in about 20–30 minutes; from there, we prepare and submit a professional, complete application that typically cuts a significant amount of time off the usual IRS wait compared to going it alone.
